Hi all,

I hope you're enjoying the glorious sunshine as we embrace this long awaited Summer!

Many of you are probably aware of the recent active area of conversation in the yoga community in relation to the emphasis on modern postural yoga, in particular in relation to Ashtanga yoga;

The vision of modern postural yoga is not about being able to twist ourselves into dramatic positions or having a certain way that the body looks. You don't need to have a slender or more androgynous body type. The recent issues seems to have arisen because yoga was originally taught to flat chested males perspective types which causes confusion and unnecessary shame amongst female practitioners. Let me be very clear here - there is absolutely NO room for shame in our yoga society.

A new skilled approach is required to interpret the teachings in a more feminine perspective. The feminine body has lots of different shapes and sizes and all are equally as beautiful as one another. Your yoga practice is supposed to be in service to your body versus unhealthy expectations for physical performance measuring up to some ideal. Ultimately, yoga is a beyond the body leap but it begins with the body as we seek our own harmony and rhythm with our own prana (life-giving force)

The essence of yoga is not about being a contortionist, it's about being able to breath with ease in your own body and it helps build capacity to move the energy through us.... an invaluable gift to give yourself in this lifetime!

On another note, there's one last space available on the new Ashtanga Basics Course starting tomorrow morning. It's for anyone brand new to the practice or those looking to return to their practice after a break. The sessions will be held on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 7.15am-8.15am over 4 weeks. We will cover the basic fundamental poses with modifications available for all different levels in a simplified and easy to digest format. There will also be Pranayama/Breathwork practices, leaving you feeling fully rejuvenated for the day ahead!

Recordings will be available if you're unable to attend the live sessions and you can find details on how to book your space HERE. Please email me at info@ashtangayogaireland.ie with any questions.

Looking forward to seeing you on your mats on these bright Summer mornings!
