keeping the vision of yoga

Hi all,

I hope you're all enjoying the fabulous weather!

There's been a lot of interest in the upcoming Foundation and Intensive Courses, hence I would like to share my vision for these courses with you;

First and foremost: these courses are definitely not teacher training courses. The reason for this is because I feel that the true vision of yoga is being lost due to the mass commercialisation of yoga. It really concerns me when I see the message that you can become a teacher of this ancient science in 200 hours and 500 hours to train other teachers - this is a real problem. There is a marked difference between the person looking to deepen their personal practice and those looking for a certificate to teach. Ironically, the teaching happens organically once you go deep in your own personal practice!

A true facilitator of yoga is someone who is genuinely doing the deep work on their spiritual path; has done the philosophical readings and research, has a daily practice and is rooted in the principles of yoga - not just in the asanas/poses but in the essence of a yogic lifestyle. My teacher in India always advises practitioners that it takes at least 10 years of daily practice and studies before you have something of real substance and authenticity to pass on to others. Translating this in to real terms amounts to around 10,000 hours (a far cry from the commercial 200 hours approach.)

Therefore my vision is to empower you to develop a deep personal practice first and foremost and to then be a conduit if you're ready to teach. The Foundation Courses are ideal for beginners and anyone looking to develop a personal practice and the Intensive Courses are for more experienced practitioners and teachers alike. I'm always happy to answer any questions you may have!

Just a gentle reminder that the NEW LEVEL 2 ASHTANGA BASICS COURSE starts on July 5th. It's the ideal continuation for those of you currently doing the Ashtanga Basics course. It's also suitable for anyone who has done any of my previous online courses or looking for a refresher in the practice. The sessions will be held on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 7.15am-8.15am over 4 weeks.

Recordings will be available if you're unable to attend the live sessions and you can find details on how to book your space HERE. Please email me at info@ashtangayogaireland.ie with any questions.

Looking forward to seeing you on your mats on these bright Summer mornings!
