Escape for an Easter Bank Holiday weekend of Ashtanga yoga, guided mountain hikes and amazing vegetarian food deep in the Wicklow woods. This weekend retreat will be a deep immersion in traditional Ashtanga yoga consisting of morning mysore style classes, guided afternoon hikes in Glendalough and the Glenmalure Valley and evening guided meditation classes. The retreat centre is a peaceful haven with shared en-suite accommodation and delicious organic vegetarian food.

Italy Summer Retreat

This is a wonderful opportunity for both beginners and experienced students to deepen their practice of Ashtanga yoga with Gillian in the beautiful setting of the Itria valley, Puglia, Southern Italy. The day will begin with Mysore Style classes and there will also be three-afternoon workshops focusing on the key elements of the Ashtanga Yoga system including the principles of Back Bending, Inversions and Transitions. Accommodation and Facilities

The retreat centre is set in 2.5 acres of grounds in a valley filled with olive and almond groves. Accommodation consists of twin/double bedrooms all with private en-suite bathrooms and AC. The rooms are all renovated to a high standard using locally sourced materials, creating a luxurious yet simple and understated feel. A large outdoor courtyard will provide the main communal eating space, and several outdoor terraces offer a place to relax in the sun or the shade.

Situated at the heart of the complex, the swimming pool acts like a colourful meeting point – with the blue water combining with the green olive trees and the red soil.

The international airport at Brindisi is approximately 40 minutes drive away and Bari is further to the north approximately 55 minutes drive. Ryanair has direct flights from Dublin to both airports. Hiring a car in Puglia is relatively inexpensive and provides a great way to explore the surrounding countryside, local historical towns and beaches. Both Bari and Brindisi airports have a large selection of hire car companies including Avis and Hertz. It is recommended to book a car before your arrival. Alternatively, we can arrange a taxi to collect you on your arrival.

Please note that the cost does not include travel arrangements including flights and transfers to and from the Retreat Centre. It also does not include medical and travel insurance.

Workshops


The Key Principles of Back Bending Workshop

Saturday, February 9th

  • 10:30 AM – 1:00 PM

An in-depth exploration into the integration of healthy alignment techniques and the development of stamina to stay through the intensity ofback bends and front stretches.

We will be moving through core elements of the Primary and the first half of the Intermediate series to help you understand the breakdown and dynamics of developing correctly aligned front stretches and deeper backbends. The dynamic movement mechanics of bending your spine are the key to limitless flows of energy and in this workshop, you will begin to explore your natural potential for backbends and front stretches with safety and support.

Suitable for all levels with some prior experience of the Ashtanga Primary Series.

Experience the traditional Ashtanga Yoga method with careful emphasis on the traditional vinyasa system. We will be moving through the Primary series to help you understand the dynamics and the breakdown of this system. There will be a strong focus on key alignment techniques, providing you with concrete information to flow through your practice from one posture to another more fluidly. There will also be a strong focus on how to apply the Tristana method of breath, posture and focal point to train the mind transforming your physical practice into a moving meditation. Previous experience of Ashtanga Yoga required. All Mysore practitioners are encouraged to attend.

These monthly workshops are suitable for all levels (including complete beginners) that would like to learn the traditional way to practice Ashtanga Yoga. You will be guided through the correct breathing technique and a series of the basic fundamental postures. You will develop a strong foundation and the confidence to transition into the Mysore classes.

Introductory class plus one month of unlimited classes – €100 or Introductory class only – €30.
