In India the term ‘Shala’ is used to describe a place for wandering yogis in the rain. I’ve always loved this concept and my vision was to create a dedicated space for authentic traditional yoga in modern day Dublin. Over the past few years, our Shala has become a sanctuary for people offering an alternative to mainstream yoga.

Yoga has turned into a billion dollar industry over the past decade. Unfortunately, the soul of yoga is been lost with so much focus on the commercialization of this ancient practice.

It’s been a financial challenge to keep our Shala open due to the massive boom in mainstream yoga. I’ve spent many years studying at the source of Ashtanga yoga in Mysore, India, hence I’m a purist in my teaching. I’ve always remained steadfast in my passion to offer a space where people truly go deep developing their own personal practice.

There is no easy way to share this news – I’ve unfortunately received a massive 33% rental increase which makes it unsustainable to remain open. I’ve tried to negotiate with the landlord but to no avail. Hence, we will, unfortunately, have to close at the end of March.

I’ll be teaching all the classes as usual until March 28th so please keep coming. Rest assured that I will continue teaching as the practice remains the same no matter where we roll out our mats.

Many of you may remember that I used to teach evening mysore classes in St. Andrews on Pearse Street just around the corner, literally 5 mins away. I’ll be taking a break from the morning classes but I’ll be continuing the Evening Mysore classes there from April 3rd onwards. We will be practicing in a beautiful room and I hope you all follow me there.

As always, thanks for your continued support and I look forward to many more years of practice together.
