Today is a very special day for the worldwide community of Ashtanga yogis. It marks the 7th anniversary of the passing of our beloved Guru of Ashtanga Yoga, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (July 26th 1915 – May 18th 2009.)
I was very fortunate to have spent many years studying under his guidance at the source in Mysore, India. Personally, I’ve never experienced anything like the incredibly strong energy he was transmitting through his teachings. I was in total awe of him and his adjustments were the deepest energetic shifts I’ve ever experienced.
People laughed at me when I started to teach traditional Ashtanga yoga in Ireland – little did anyone know how huge our Irish Ashtanga Mysore community would become!
I feel immense gratitude towards Guruji for dedicating his life to bringing us this ancient practice. The teachings are now flowing through my teacher, Sharath in their pure form as Guruji intended.
As most of you already know, I’m deeply passionate about teaching as it’s taught at the source in Mysore. This is the only clear way to help us all tap in to the true vision of yoga.
I’m also incredibly grateful to all my wonderful students that show up on their mats every day – in the words of Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois ‘practice and all is coming’.
