It’s great to see our newly extended Mysore Programme in full swing – I’m delighted that you’re all enjoying our new space and availing of the additional evening classes!
We also have an amazing group of 20 practitioners on our current Immersion Course. We’ve been reviewing the programme to date and decided to add an extra five weekend dates. This is based on their positive feedback and desire to cover more extensive content and practice. The subject of Ashtanga yoga is incredibly vast and worthy of a lifetime of study. Hence, our next Immersion Course will be a one year course starting in January 2020 and will run over ten weekends. This comprehensive course is designed for practitioners and teachers that want to deepen their own personal practice and understanding of Ashtanga Yoga (it is not a teacher training course.) It is aimed at preparing you to go beyond the asanas and to make Ashtanga yoga an integral part of your life journey.
The course modules will include classic yogic breathing techniques, guided led primary and mysore style classes, the traditional method of Sanskrit Vinyasa counting and safe hands-on adjustments of the key postures from the Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga. The modules will also include classical Yoga Philosophy and fundamental applied Anatomy and Physiology. You can find full details and the application process via Immersion Course Page.
I’ll also be teaching an Introductory Mysore Workshop on Saturday, May 4th and a Led Primary Series Workshop on Saturday, May 18th (see below.) There are two last spaces available on the Summer Retreat in Italy – don’t delay as it will fill up quickly!
There will be no Mysore class next Monday, April 22nd due to the Bank Holiday – otherwise the Mysore classes are running as usual every evening.

Introductory Mysore Workshop
Saturday, May 4th

This Introductory Workshop is suitable for all levels (including complete beginners) that would like to learn the traditional way to practice Ashtanga Yoga. You will be guided through the correct breathing technique and a series of the basic fundamental postures. You will develop a strong foundation and the confidence to transition into the Mysore classes.
Introductory Workshop plus one month of unlimited classes – €100 or Introductory Workshop only – €35.

YogaPulia Retreat Centre
This is a wonderful opportunity for both beginners and experienced students to deepen their practice of Ashtanga yoga with Gillian in the beautiful setting of the Itria valley, Puglia, Southern Italy. The day will begin with Mysore Style classes and there will also be three-afternoon workshops focusing on the key elements of the Ashtanga Yoga system including the principles of Back Bending, Inversions and Transitions. Accommodation and Facilities
The retreat centre is set in 2.5 acres of grounds in a valley filled with olive and almond groves. Accommodation consists of twin/double bedrooms all with private en-suite bathrooms and AC. The rooms are all renovated to a high standard using locally sourced materials, creating a luxurious yet simple and understated feel. A large outdoor courtyard will provide the main communal eating space, and several outdoor terraces offer a place to relax in the sun or the shade.
Situated at the heart of the complex, the swimming pool acts like a colourful meeting point – with the blue water combining with the green olive trees and the red soil.
The international airport at Brindisi is approximately 40 minutes drive away and Bari is further to the north approximately 55 minutes drive. Ryanair has direct flights from Dublin to both airports. Hiring a car in Puglia is relatively inexpensive and provides a great way to explore the surrounding countryside, local historical towns and beaches. Both Bari and Brindisi airports have a large selection of hire car companies including Avis and Hertz. It is recommended to book a car before your arrival. Alternatively, we can arrange a taxi to collect you on your arrival.

Immersion Course 2020
This Immersion Course is designed for yoga practitioners and teachers looking for a deeper understanding and approach to the Ashtanga Yoga system. These authentic teachings will be offered from Gillian’s personal experience of fourteen years working with the ancient lineage system ‘Parampara’ at the source in Mysore, India.
The course will consist of a detailed analysis of the Asanas of the Primary Series including adjustment and alignment techniques. There will also be comprehensive studies of Yoga Philosophy, Anatomy and Physiology and Yogic Breathwork.
This one year course is held over ten weekend modules for people that are ready to go beyond the Asanas and to make Ashtanga Yoga an integral part of their life journey.
Guided Led Primary and Mysore Style Classes
The Guided Led Primary classes will be an in-depth study of the Ashtanga Yoga method with careful emphasis on learning the traditional Vinyasa system. The Mysore Style Classes will have a strong focus on working with the Tristana method to train the mind transforming your practice into a moving meditation.
Yoga Asana and Adjustment Techniques
A detailed analysis of the key deconstruction and alignment techniques of the Ashtanga Yoga Primary series. There will be a strong focus on developing a solid foundation in the core alignment points of each asana. Practical hands- on adjustments will provide students with the concrete knowledge to learn safe and effective adjustments.
History and Philosophy of Yoga
An overview of the origins and the fundamental ideas on which classical yoga practice is based. This provides a basis for a study of teachings found in the ancient yogic scriptures including the Upanishads, Bhagavad-gita, and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Lecturer: Marianne Jacuzzi
Anatomy and Physiology
A practical exploration into the key anatomical and physiological principles relevant to the Ashtanga yoga practice. Students will develop a solid understanding about the functional anatomy and physiology of the body to better understand safe and stable physical alignment in each asana of the Primary series. Yogic Breathwork, Bandhas and Yoga Nidra Meditation
The study of yogic breathing techniques and working with the yogic locks (bandhas) of the body: mula, uddiyana and jalandhara bandhas will be an integral element of the course. The practice of Yoga Nidra Meditation is a guided meditation which helps the body assimilate the teachings leaving you relaxed and restored.

Full Led Primary Series Workshop

Experience the traditional Ashtanga Yoga method with careful emphasis on the traditional vinyasa system. We will be moving through the Primary series to help you understand the dynamics and the breakdown of this system. There will be a strong focus on key alignment techniques, providing you with concrete information to flow through your practice from one posture to another more fluidly. There will also be a strong focus on how to apply the Tristana method of breath, posture and focal point to train the mind transforming your physical practice into a moving meditation. Previous experience of Ashtanga Yoga required. All Mysore practitioners are encouraged to attend
